TESTIMONIALS
What our athletes are saying about us:
I have been working with Shayne and the GC Coaching team for 2 years with great success. As someone who struggles with time constraints, Shayne has always been able to develop a plan that works within my schedule, but still provides the benefits that I look for in a good coach! I also appreciate that GC Coaching has continued to promote cycling as a sponsor of the Witches Cup to help grow the sport! There are a lot of coaching services out there, but very few who can talk the talk and walk the walk like GC Coaching has done.

I can’t say enough about this program with GC coaching. I’ve trained with Shayne before but failed due to time constraints. But his virtual training program solves that issue. And I already feel stronger. The numbers auto set to your FTP, so the sessions are just hard enough to finish with a great sense of accomplishment. And as the weeks are progressing, I am feeling a lot stronger and more confident about my abilities. I’m not a pro, so I can’t tell you that the training is structured for a specific gains. I can say he has his certifications and I’ve dealt with him personally and he sounds very impressive. I can say that so far, it feels perfect. I struggle, but finish. I’m appreciate the rest days. I feel stronger and can see the physical changes. So he must know something. We can all find snip-its of training here and there. But a full, day by day, personally formatted exercise program, that progresses appropriately, for a crazy low cost. Why would you not do it.
And I know I will be crushing the group rides this summer!!!

I started training on my own to a point that was not improving my performance until I started to train with GC Coaching. It is difficult to believe how a specific training makes a lot of difference. It has been accompanied by all the steps in these months of racing season and I have been getting better and better. I will definitely be with them in 2018 next season.

I would highly recommend Shayne and the rest of GC Coaching to any level of cyclist looking to improve. At GC Coaching they utilize Training Peaks to keep your calendar, upload workouts and comment on your workouts. Because of their dedication to this product I believe this makes their services excel. Getting feedback on a workout or race soon after uploading is refreshing in the world of endurance coaching. Their willingness to use ZWIFT for training also sets them apart and helps keep you on track. You can not go wrong with GC Coaching.

Working with GC Coaching has enabled me to remain on a path of constant growth over several seasons. Shayne creates a platform for continuous improvement by incorporating feedback loops into each athlete’s program. He performs professional analysis of my workout data and combines this with information that he gathers from me. He has a deep understanding of my needs and continuously strives to help me reach my maximum potential. I highly recommend GC Coaching because they utilize quality coaching techniques with evidence-based data analysis.

Excellent coach. Approachable and responsive. Best of all my power has rebounded post collarbone/shoulder blade surgery and I’m riding better than I ever have. Shayne will give credit when credit is due and also be straight forward when he knows there is improvement to be gained.

Taking up bike racing in one’s late forties is not for the faint of heart. Surrounded by riders with years of experience and twenty-somethings who feel no pain, there are far too many opportunities for injury, suffering and humiliation.
Despite all of that — or maybe because of it — I found the idea of competitive cycling truly compelling. I wanted to try it but I needed to be stronger and prepared. I couldn’t have wished for greater help than that which I received from Shayne. His secret formula is an irresistible mix of technical know-how, attention to detail and a completely unwavering commitment to help you succeed — whatever your goal.
He got me stronger and got me my first pack finish. Things that, quite frankly, get harder as you get older. Now a Cat 4 going into my fifth year of training with Shayne, I couldn’t imagine being where I am without his help and support. If you’re keen and if you’re serious about getting better, then look no further. He is the coach to help you reach your aims.
See you at the start line!

After a few years of riding, having a lot of fun and with fair progress on my own, I came to a point where I continued to struggle to make it to the next level. I have 3 small boys and I travel roughly 40% of the time, so finding the time to do enough training has been a challenge.
I met Shayne a few years ago at a PMC event and had found later he had become a cycling coach. Not so early this season a shared email led me back to Shayne, so I reached out to him for some help, letting him know of my challenging schedule. He was able to put together a plan for my limited time and travel schedule that really challenged me physically and brought me into racing season in great shape. I feel so much stronger than I did a year ago. Looking forward to the rest of this season.
Thank you Shayne.

I came to Shayne and GCC with lots of enthusiasm and willingness to work, but without knowing how to take my riding to the next level. I also had a bucket list goal: California’s “Death Ride”. Shayne did a great job of meeting me where I was, and crafting a training plan around my abilities, constraints, and preferences. Several (hard!) months later, I crushed the Death Ride and went on to several other challenging rides later in the season. After that, I even took up racing, something I’d never thought I’d do, and had a blast competing in our local cyclocross series. Throughout, Shayne provided great support and knowledge—with lots of humor to keep everything in perspective

For several years I have had the desire to complete a multi day long distance ride. I have always felt that my interests were more towards endurance riding than racing. After some health setbacks in the last couple of years, the stars finally aligned and I picked a ride. This ride was no small goal for me, it included about 400 miles and almost 30,000 feet of climbing at altitude over 6 days.
I talked with Coach Shayne about helping me prepare for this event. He had some great ideas and so we worked together to get prepared for the big week. My goal was to not just finish, but finish strong.
Coach Shayne’s workout plans, encouragement, and an appropriate amount of pushing was instrumental in my completion of the ride. He tailored the workouts to meet my schedule and he was always available to provide advice and the encouragement that is needed when things seem to not be going well. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone, especially, someone that is just looking to get started or has a specific event in mind. I was very impressed with his knowledge and ability to help me meet my goals.

In the midst of an unnecessarily long, cold, and snowy winter, I approached Shayne after having taken one of his P2 classes. Having structured workouts during the winter was just what I needed, and getting them from a friend and teammate was a real perk!
My request for Coach Gaffney was unique to any cyclist in the New England area. I wanted help getting my Category 3 track upgrade. I had gotten my Category 4 upgrade at the Northeast Velodrome during the last year it was operational and got bitten by the track bug hard. After that track closed down, the next nearest was Kissena Velodrome in Queens, NY. I found it was possible to make it there and back in a day and set about racing as often as I could. In 2014, I was self-coached and fought very hard for my upgrade but I was always just shy of getting the necessary points.
I began working with Shayne early on in 2015. Every workout he prescribed was track specific, and my abilities improved thusly; far more quickly than had I been on my own. By the last weekly race of the season, I easily garnered the remaining points to get my upgrade!
Without Shayne’s insight and training plans, I can honestly say I wouldn’t have gotten my upgrade. And as a plus, he stresses being easy to communicate with often answering random questions whenever I had them. Already Shayne is working on my 2016 season, with my sights set on both Track Nationals and a Category 2 upgrade!

-The A group, the fast ones on the Saturday ride.
-A sub 5 hour century.
These were my goals and they had eluded me for years because, I now see, I didn’t really have a plan for achieving them. I began working with Coach Shayne Gaffney in January of 2015 through his Pure Power (P2) classes looking to finally crack them. I came away from the P2 class seeing a remarkable increase in both my power and confidence. Recognizing the clear benefits structured training had for me, I asked Coach Shayne to coach me through the rest of the 2015 season and I began to consider racing. Having never raced before I was incredibly nervous. But working with Coach Shayne only continued to improve those two facets and as I approached the first race of the season at Mt. Blue, I knew I was ready. Through the season as my confidence and ability grew, each race became more fun than the last.
Thanks to Coach Shayne being so generous with his time and knowledge, I achieved my original goals, grew to set new ones and achieved those as well. There is only one way to say this and that is that 2015 was the most fun I’ve ever had on a bike.

I started cycling 4 years ago with no real goals in mind, I just got on the bike and was hooked. The next year I began to take cycling a little more serious and even got into racing. Over the next couple of seasons I grew stronger, but still felt I was missing something. After riding with and getting to know Shayne more, I realized something was different in the way we both trained. We were both driven athletes, but he had structure, goals and a training plan that kept him improving ride after ride. These were all the things I wanted and knew I needed to progress as a cyclist. It was then I decided to start working with Shayne for the 2015 season. I began by taking his P2 indoor cycling class and advanced to one on one coaching. The structure I received was exactly what I needed. Knowing my training schedule weeks in advance is tremendously helpful. When life gets busy the fact that I can reach out to Shayne for changes (sometimes within hours) to my training schedule is key to my continuous success.
As a fitness professional myself, I believe a good leader/coach doesn’t lead by words but with actions. Seeing the commitment Shayne puts forth in his own training is a constant reminder to me as to what is needed and required to be successful in this sport.
